This refresher on figure drawing helped reinforce some of the ideas I had forgotten from the first time Tommy had come to teach us, such as remaining lose but also capturing the figure in light strokes. I found the contour exercises specifically helpful in understanding the form because it made me focus on purely drawing what I observed as opposed to what I believed the form to look like. The quick gesture drawings helped me identify forms in quick successive strokes, and the culminating portrait activity really surprised me in my ability to capture a somewhat realistic image using a three tone value scale and my understanding of form and negative space.
