I anticipated this project being difficult, but only soon after beginning did I realize applying Käthe Kollwitz's mark to a different style of drawing would need much more attention than I had previously believed. When copying her drawing, I was deliberately copying a general hatching stroke and trying to replicate the values shown in her drawing, but when it came down to applying it to my own portrait, I had to understand where and how to hatch in a particular way that captured her 'frenetic' style. Overall it was a difficult but rewarding project, because my mother when she saw me working on it asked for me to give it to her when I'm finished so the fruits of my labor will be appreciated.
